# TomTom vs Rove Maps

The clearest difference is ratings volume: TomTom at 3.3K against Rove Maps's 7. Rove Maps's advantage is review sentiment (75% vs 50%). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for TomTom against 4.7 for Rove Maps. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TomTom has 3.3K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 50% of TomTom's written reviews are positive against 75% of Rove Maps's.

TomTom ships an update every 10 days, Rove Maps fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
