# Mac Tools Smart Tools vs TechApp by Shop

The clearest difference is review sentiment: TechApp by Shop at 50% against Mac Tools Smart Tools's 25%. Mac Tools Smart Tools's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (66 vs 11). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Mac Tools Smart Tools holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mac Tools Smart Tools has 66 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of Mac Tools Smart Tools's written reviews are positive against 50% of TechApp by Shop's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Mac Tools Smart Tools ships an update every 2 months, TechApp by Shop every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
