# Animals Names vs Stopwatch & Countdown Timer

The clearest difference is monetization model: Animals Names at free with in-app purchases against Stopwatch & Countdown Timer's subscription. Animals Names also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (50% vs 25%). Stopwatch & Countdown Timer's advantage is ratings volume (653 vs 22) and rating (4.2 vs 4.0). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Animals Names sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Stopwatch & Countdown Timer sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Stopwatch & Countdown Timer holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Stopwatch & Countdown Timer has 653 ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Animals Names's written reviews are positive against 25% of Stopwatch & Countdown Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
