# Blue Bottle Coffee vs Square Coffee

The clearest difference is ads: Square Coffee at none against Blue Bottle Coffee's shown. Square Coffee also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (every 5 days vs monthly). Blue Bottle Coffee's advantage is review sentiment (25% vs 0%) and ratings volume (9.2K vs 1). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Square Coffee holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Blue Bottle Coffee has 9.2K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of Blue Bottle Coffee's written reviews are positive against 0% of Square Coffee's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Blue Bottle Coffee ships an update monthly, Square Coffee every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
