# Calctan vs Loudspeaker

Calctan and Loudspeaker both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Loudspeaker's written reviews are positive against 29% of Calctan's. Loudspeaker also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). Calctan's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Calctan sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Loudspeaker sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Calctan against 4.5 for Loudspeaker. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Calctan has 61 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 29% of Calctan's written reviews are positive against 100% of Loudspeaker's.

Calctan ships an update every 3 months, Loudspeaker monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
