# Virtual Mutations vs Subcap

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Virtual Mutations at none against Subcap's 10. Virtual Mutations also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.6). Subcap's advantage is ratings volume (2K vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Subcap sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Virtual Mutations asks for nothing beyond the download.

Virtual Mutations holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Subcap has 2K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Virtual Mutations ships an update every 9 days, Subcap fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
