# Fairy Chess vs Chess Crusade

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Fairy Chess at 100% against Chess Crusade's 50%. Fairy Chess also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 7). Chess Crusade's advantage is rating (4.4 vs 3.6) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Crusade sells 7 one-off in-app purchases. Fairy Chess asks for nothing beyond the download.

Chess Crusade holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Crusade has 89 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Fairy Chess's written reviews are positive against 50% of Chess Crusade's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Fairy Chess ships an update every 3 months, Chess Crusade every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
