# Tone Gen Pro vs Frequency

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Frequency at none against Tone Gen Pro's 1. Frequency also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (1.2K vs 48). Tone Gen Pro's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.0). On price, review sentiment, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Tone Gen Pro sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Frequency asks for nothing beyond the download.

Frequency holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Frequency has 1.2K ratings behind it against 48, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 75% of Tone Gen Pro's written reviews are positive against 73% of Frequency's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Tone Gen Pro ships an update every 3 months, Frequency fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
