# Nom Plant vs Material Shifter

The clearest difference is rating: Nom Plant at 4.6 against Material Shifter's 4.0. Nom Plant also leads on ratings volume (36K vs 29) and update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 3 months). Material Shifter's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Nom Plant sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Material Shifter sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Nom Plant holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Nom Plant has 36K ratings behind it against 29, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of Nom Plant's written reviews are positive against 50% of Material Shifter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Nom Plant ships an update every 6 weeks, Material Shifter every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
