# TEFL Handbook vs Lingoda

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: TEFL Handbook at none against Lingoda's 4. TEFL Handbook also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 70%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). Lingoda's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 5 weeks). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Lingoda sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $99.99 per month. TEFL Handbook asks for nothing beyond the download.

Lingoda holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lingoda has 187 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of TEFL Handbook's written reviews are positive against 70% of Lingoda's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

TEFL Handbook ships an update every 5 weeks, Lingoda every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
