# Immersive Chinese vs CanTONEse

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: CanTONEse at none against Immersive Chinese's 4. CanTONEse also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs every 5 weeks) and review sentiment (100% vs 90%). Immersive Chinese's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and ratings volume (57 vs 2). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Immersive Chinese sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. CanTONEse asks for nothing beyond the download.

Immersive Chinese holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Immersive Chinese has 57 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 90% of Immersive Chinese's written reviews are positive against 100% of CanTONEse's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Immersive Chinese ships an update every 5 weeks, CanTONEse every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
