# Manhood vs SelfControl

The clearest difference is monetization model: Manhood at freemium against SelfControl's subscription. Manhood also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (628 vs 12). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Manhood sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and SelfControl sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SelfControl holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Manhood has 628 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Manhood ships an update weekly, SelfControl every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
