# VIM vs Lava Crew

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Lava Crew at 100% against VIM's 50%. Lava Crew also leads on rating (5.0 vs 3.5). VIM's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (8 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VIM sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Lava Crew sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Lava Crew holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VIM has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 50% of VIM's written reviews are positive against 100% of Lava Crew's.

VIM ships an update every 2 months, Lava Crew every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
