# Librem Tunnel vs Freedom

The clearest difference is rating: Librem Tunnel at 4.4 against Freedom's 3.2. Librem Tunnel also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). Freedom's advantage is review sentiment (47% vs 14%) and ratings volume (274 vs 35). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Librem Tunnel holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Freedom has 274 ratings behind it against 35, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Librem Tunnel's written reviews are positive against 47% of Freedom's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Librem Tunnel ships an update weekly, Freedom every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
