# Text Capture vs CatScanner

The clearest difference is rating: Text Capture at 4.5 against CatScanner's 4.0. Text Capture also leads on ratings volume (2.7K vs 4) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). CatScanner's advantage is iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.5). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Text Capture sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and CatScanner sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Text Capture holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text Capture has 2.7K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 42% of Text Capture's written reviews are positive against 50% of CatScanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Text Capture ships an update weekly, CatScanner every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
