# BarterUnit vs Beacon

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: BarterUnit at none against Beacon's 3. Beacon's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.4) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Beacon sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. BarterUnit asks for nothing beyond the download.

Beacon holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Beacon has 503 ratings behind it against 19, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 85% of BarterUnit's written reviews are positive against 91% of Beacon's.

BarterUnit ships an update every 2 months, Beacon every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
