# AltitudeAlert vs SkyTimer

The clearest difference is monetization model: SkyTimer at freemium against AltitudeAlert's subscription. SkyTimer also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and device support (4 vs 2). AltitudeAlert's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. AltitudeAlert sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and SkyTimer sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

AltitudeAlert holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 26 and 22 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of AltitudeAlert's written reviews are positive against 54% of SkyTimer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

AltitudeAlert ships an update every 2 months, SkyTimer fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 22, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
