# Play Chess Games vs Backgammon

Play Chess Games and Backgammon both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 72% of Play Chess Games's written reviews are positive against 21% of Backgammon's. Play Chess Games also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 11 months) and ratings volume (17K vs 945). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Backgammon holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Play Chess Games has 17K ratings behind it against 945, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of Play Chess Games's written reviews are positive against 21% of Backgammon's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Play Chess Games ships an update every 2 weeks, Backgammon every 11 months. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
