# VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield vs Lightning VPN

VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield and Lightning VPN both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 69% of VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield's written reviews are positive against 36% of Lightning VPN's. VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield also leads on ratings volume (46 vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Lightning VPN's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and Lightning VPN sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Lightning VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield has 46 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 69% of VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield's written reviews are positive against 36% of Lightning VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

VPN Proxy Master Secure Shield ships an update every 2 months, Lightning VPN every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
