# Image scanner vs Local OCR

Image scanner and Local OCR both sit at 3.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Local OCR's written reviews are positive against 83% of Image scanner's. Image scanner's advantage is ratings volume (6 vs 1). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Image scanner sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per 7 days and Local OCR sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Local OCR holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Image scanner has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 83% of Image scanner's written reviews are positive against 100% of Local OCR's.

Image scanner ships an update every 3 weeks, Local OCR every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
