# MTG Scanner vs GAN

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: GAN at none against MTG Scanner's 13. GAN also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 weeks). MTG Scanner's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (3.8K vs 3). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MTG Scanner sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. GAN asks for nothing beyond the download.

GAN holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MTG Scanner has 3.8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MTG Scanner ships an update every 2 weeks, GAN every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
