# Griptonite vs Ascent

The clearest difference is rating: Ascent at 5.0 against Griptonite's 3.0. Ascent also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.5). Griptonite's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (21 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Griptonite sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Ascent sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ascent holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Griptonite has 21 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Griptonite ships an update every 3 weeks, Ascent weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
