# Blip vs Shadowchat

The clearest difference is rating: Shadowchat at 5.0 against Blip's 4.2. Shadowchat also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.5 vs 18.0). Blip's advantage is update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (22 vs 2). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Blip sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Shadowchat sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shadowchat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Blip has 22 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Blip ships an update every 2 days, Shadowchat every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on June 10, 2026 and September 9, 2026 respectively.
