# Paper vs TypePress

The clearest difference is rating: Paper at 4.7 against TypePress's 2.5. Paper also leads on ratings volume (1.8K vs 2) and iOS requirement (15 vs 17.0). TypePress's advantage is update cadence (every 6 days vs monthly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Paper sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and TypePress sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Paper holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Paper has 1.8K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Paper ships an update monthly, TypePress every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
