The clearest difference is monetization model: Whats Messenger App at free with in-app purchases against Messenger for Web ++'s subscription. Messenger for Web ++'s advantage is review sentiment (49% vs 29%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
