# Readability vs Visual Math Karate

The clearest difference is monetization model: Visual Math Karate at free against Readability's subscription. Visual Math Karate also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.4). Readability's advantage is ratings volume (25K vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Readability sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month and Visual Math Karate sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Visual Math Karate holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Readability has 25K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Readability ships an update fortnightly, Visual Math Karate every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and September 26, 2026 respectively.
