# SmartSwitch vs Data Transfer

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SmartSwitch at none against Data Transfer's 16. SmartSwitch also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 13.0). Data Transfer's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 13 months) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 101). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Data Transfer sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per year. SmartSwitch asks for nothing beyond the download.

SmartSwitch holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Data Transfer has 1.1K ratings behind it against 101, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 25% of SmartSwitch's written reviews are positive against 19% of Data Transfer's.

SmartSwitch ships an update every 13 months, Data Transfer every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
