# NX Play vs Runtime TV

The clearest difference is ads: NX Play at none against Runtime TV's shown. NX Play also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Runtime TV's advantage is ratings volume (1.2K vs 1) and device support (5 vs 3). On price and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

NX Play holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Runtime TV has 1.2K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

NX Play ships an update every 6 weeks, Runtime TV every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on September 25, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
