# Gear for Heroes vs Gemstone Tree

The clearest difference is rating: Gear for Heroes at 4.6 against Gemstone Tree's 3.9. Gear for Heroes also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 8 months). Gemstone Tree's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 7) and review sentiment (43% vs 34%). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Gear for Heroes sells 7 one-off in-app purchases. Gemstone Tree asks for nothing beyond the download.

Gear for Heroes holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Gear for Heroes has 143 ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 34% of Gear for Heroes's written reviews are positive against 43% of Gemstone Tree's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Gear for Heroes ships an update weekly, Gemstone Tree every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
