# ProDex vs Anime Reference

The clearest difference is ads: Anime Reference at none against ProDex's shown. ProDex's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (4.9K vs 80). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ProDex sells 18 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Anime Reference sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for ProDex against 4.5 for Anime Reference. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ProDex has 4.9K ratings behind it against 80, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 88% of ProDex's written reviews are positive against 75% of Anime Reference's.

ProDex ships an update every 4 days, Anime Reference every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
