The clearest difference is ads: 傻瓜英语HD at none against ZenReader's shown. HD also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.0). ZenReader's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (82% vs 67%). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HD sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and ZenReader sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

HD holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ZenReader has 374 ratings behind it against 74, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of 傻瓜英语HD's written reviews are positive against 82% of ZenReader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

HD ships an update every 3 months, ZenReader every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
