# SD vs Mr. Slate

The clearest difference is rating: SD at 3.4 against Mr. Slate's 2.2. Mr. Slate's advantage is update cadence (daily vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

SD holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 2.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 12 and 6 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 22% of SD's written reviews are positive against 25% of Mr. Slate's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SD ships an update every 2 months, Mr. Slate daily. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
