# Translator* vs Translator

Translator* and Translator both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 49% of Translator*'s written reviews are positive against 9% of Translator's. Translator* also leads on ratings volume (2.8K vs 9). Translator's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Translator* sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Translator sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for Translator* against 4.3 for Translator. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Translator* has 2.8K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 49% of Translator*'s written reviews are positive against 9% of Translator's.

Translator* ships an update every 5 months, Translator fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
