# Translator* vs German Translator

The clearest difference is monetization model: German Translator at free with in-app purchases against Translator*'s subscription. German Translator also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 5 months). Translator*'s advantage is rating (4.4 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (2.8K vs 3). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Translator* sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and German Translator sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Translator* holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Translator* has 2.8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Translator* ships an update every 5 months, German Translator every 2 months. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
