# Puff Count vs Betta Expert

The clearest difference is monetization model: Puff Count at free with in-app purchases against Betta Expert's subscription. Puff Count also leads on rating (4.3 vs 3.9) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 months). Betta Expert's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Puff Count sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Betta Expert sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Puff Count holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Puff Count has 2.7K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 20% of Puff Count's written reviews are positive against 0% of Betta Expert's.

Puff Count ships an update weekly, Betta Expert every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
