# ZOLEO vs Mastodon

The clearest difference is rating: Mastodon at 4.5 against ZOLEO's 3.7. Mastodon also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (13K vs 104). ZOLEO's advantage is iOS requirement (13 vs 18.6). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Mastodon holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mastodon has 13K ratings behind it against 104, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 52% of ZOLEO's written reviews are positive against 48% of Mastodon's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ZOLEO ships an update every 2 months, Mastodon monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
