# Smash vs Data Transfer

The clearest difference is rating: Smash at 4.5 against Data Transfer's 3.8. Smash also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 months). Data Transfer's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs freemium) and review sentiment (52% vs 44%). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Smash holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 239 and 316 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Smash's written reviews are positive against 52% of Data Transfer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Smash ships an update fortnightly, Data Transfer every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
