# xScan vs ScanMate

xScan and ScanMate both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 42% of xScan's written reviews are positive against 0% of ScanMate's. xScan also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (31K vs 351). ScanMate's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. xScan sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and ScanMate sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for xScan against 4.6 for ScanMate. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: xScan has 31K ratings behind it against 351, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 42% of xScan's written reviews are positive against 0% of ScanMate's.

xScan ships an update fortnightly, ScanMate every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
