# File manager vs Document Scanner

The clearest difference is ads: Document Scanner at none against File manager's shown. Document Scanner also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.5). File manager's advantage is ratings volume (720 vs 24) and review sentiment (30% vs 17%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. File manager sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days and Document Scanner sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Document Scanner holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: File manager has 720 ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 30% of File manager's written reviews are positive against 17% of Document Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
