# The Complex vs Orphans

The Complex and Orphans both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 83% of Orphans's written reviews are positive against 46% of The Complex's. Orphans also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (2.6K vs 187). The Complex's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Complex sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Orphans sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Orphans holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Orphans has 2.6K ratings behind it against 187, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 46% of The Complex's written reviews are positive against 83% of Orphans's.

The Complex ships an update every 3 months, Orphans every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
