# Backdrops vs Void Widgets

The clearest difference is ads: Void Widgets at none against Backdrops's shown. Void Widgets also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months) and chart position (#173 vs unranked). Backdrops's advantage is ratings volume (1.6K vs 88) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backdrops sells 16 one-off in-app purchases and Void Widgets sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Backdrops against 4.8 for Void Widgets. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backdrops has 1.6K ratings behind it against 88, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 60% of Backdrops's written reviews are positive against 65% of Void Widgets's.

Backdrops ships an update every 2 months, Void Widgets every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
