# Backdrops vs FormaLM

The clearest difference is ads: FormaLM at none against Backdrops's shown. FormaLM also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). Backdrops's advantage is ratings volume (1.6K vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backdrops sells 13 one-off in-app purchases and FormaLM sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

FormaLM holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backdrops has 1.6K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Backdrops ships an update every 2 months, FormaLM every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
