# Codex vs HZVPN

The clearest difference is review sentiment: HZVPN at 43% against Codex's 0%. HZVPN also leads on ratings volume (105 vs 3). Codex's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.3) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 18.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Codex sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and HZVPN sells 11 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Codex holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HZVPN has 105 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Codex's written reviews are positive against 43% of HZVPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Codex ships an update monthly, HZVPN every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
