# Letterforms vs Font maker

The clearest difference is monetization model: Font maker at free with in-app purchases against Letterforms's subscription. Font maker also leads on review sentiment (69% vs 32%) and ratings volume (1.9K vs 9). Letterforms's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 8 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Letterforms sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Font maker sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Font maker holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Font maker has 1.9K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 32% of Letterforms's written reviews are positive against 69% of Font maker's.

Letterforms ships an update weekly, Font maker every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
