# MapGenie vs Playgroup

MapGenie and Playgroup both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 82% of Playgroup's written reviews are positive against 43% of MapGenie's. Playgroup also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). MapGenie's advantage is ratings volume (2K vs 74). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Playgroup asks for nothing beyond the download.

Playgroup holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 2K ratings behind it against 74, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 43% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 82% of Playgroup's.

MapGenie ships an update every 27 months, Playgroup monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
