# Smartist vs Value Study Assistant

The clearest difference is monetization model: Value Study Assistant at free against Smartist's free with in-app purchases. Value Study Assistant also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 weeks). Smartist's advantage is ratings volume (8.5K vs 3) and chart position (#143 vs unranked). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Smartist sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $7.49 per month and Value Study Assistant sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Value Study Assistant holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smartist has 8.5K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Smartist ships an update every 2 weeks, Value Study Assistant every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
