# Capsules vs Obsidian

Capsules and Obsidian both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Capsules's written reviews are positive against 62% of Obsidian's. Obsidian's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 10 months) and ratings volume (2.8K vs 3). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Capsules holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Obsidian has 2.8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of Capsules's written reviews are positive against 62% of Obsidian's.

Capsules ships an update every 10 months, Obsidian every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
