# Shadow Weather vs AngelsAlert

The clearest difference is monetization model: Shadow Weather at free with in-app purchases against AngelsAlert's subscription. Shadow Weather also leads on ratings volume (175 vs 7) and chart position (#194 vs unranked). AngelsAlert's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 8 days vs every 8 months). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shadow Weather sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and AngelsAlert sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

AngelsAlert holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shadow Weather has 175 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Shadow Weather ships an update every 8 months, AngelsAlert every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
