# Speech to Text vs Instant Transcript

The clearest difference is rating: Instant Transcript at 5.0 against Speech to Text's 4.4. Instant Transcript also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs monthly). Speech to Text's advantage is ratings volume (128 vs 2) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 26.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speech to Text sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days and Instant Transcript sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Instant Transcript holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speech to Text has 128 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Speech to Text ships an update monthly, Instant Transcript every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
