# CarolinaU vs Open

The clearest difference is rating: CarolinaU at 3.3 against Open's 2.7. CarolinaU also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). Open's advantage is review sentiment (21% vs 0%) and ratings volume (86 vs 6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

CarolinaU holds the better App Store score, 3.3 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Open has 86 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of CarolinaU's written reviews are positive against 21% of Open's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CarolinaU ships an update monthly, Open every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
